5K of Love Food Drive

Food Drive to Benefit Shawnee Community Services · August 20-September 24

We are off to a great start! So far 683 items have been collected as well as more than $200! We’ve crossed the 1,000 item mark!

We also received an email from Shawnee Community Services about an increased need for canned spaghetti sauce, spaghetti, peanut butter and baked beans. So if you plan to shop, please put these items at the top of your list!

Our goal is to donate 5,000 items from the Shawnee Community Services food list. Cash donations also accepted. $1 equals two canned items toward our goal. If we collect 10,000 items (or the money to purchase them) Johnny will shave his head bald during worship in October. You can give to this offering or to our General Fund by clicking here. To give to the “5K of Love” choose it from the drop-down menu of special offerings.

There are collection boxes set up in the back of the worship space. Thank you for your support!

Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey & Week of Compassion

Hurricane Harvey continues to cause damage across southeastern Texas. Week of Compassion, the relief, refugee  and development mission fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada, is already working with partners and Disciples churches in the area to provide emergency assistance.

Rev. Caroline Hamilton-Arnold, Associate Director for Week of Compassion, wrote an update on the work already being done in the area.

Week of Compassion will continue to be in communication with Disciples in the affected areas and to monitor the ongoing situation. Together with the area and region, we are working to get support to the families and churches that have experienced damage from the floods. We are also looking toward long-term recovery, which we anticipate will take several years. Harvey has been cataclysmic, but we, followers of a Christ who broke even the bonds of death, know about actions that produce great change. We will continue to act, together. Read More
