Volunteer in Children’s Ministry

We need 4 volunteers to help out on Sundays in Children’s Ministry — to build friendships, make church fun and help kids experience Jesus. We’ll bring all the snacks and lesson supplies, and you’ll show up ready to high-five, smile, listen, and talk about Jesus. Email Katie, children’s ministry director, or visit the Children’s Ministry check-in on Sunday to learn more about this opportunity!

What do you get when you sign up to serve in Children’s Ministry?

Fall Small Groups

One of the best ways to connect and build community is through a small group. Shawnee Community small groups are groups of people who meet weekly in homes, restaurants and at Shawnee Community. In a small group you will find people who will support and encourage you, pray for you and help you grow in your faith. Groups discuss the current sermon series and other faith topics, serve together and care for one another.

There is a small group for everyone! Fall small groups begin the week of September 11, 2022. Interested in signing up for a group? Register at the link below or visit Connection Corner on Sunday to sign-up.

Register for a Small Group

Men’s Group: The men’s group meets on Sunday evenings from 7:30-9:00 pm at Tanner’s (22374 W 66th St, Shawnee) All men are welcome to connect and strengthen our SCCC Community.  Come and have a bite to eat, your favorite beverage and engage in a review of how Tabatha’s sermon can connect to our lives.  When the Chiefs are playing Sunday Night Football, come and just enjoy the game with us.

Women’s Group: The women’s group meets on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:00 pm at the church. Childcare will be available. This group consists mainly of women with school age (K-12) children but is open to all. We will discuss the sermon topic, support each other and share what is going on in our lives.

Thursday Morning Group: This group meets from 9:30-10:30 am on Thursday. The group is co-led by Annette Hollingsworth and Linda Phillips. A combination of Zoom meetings and once a month in person meetings at Big Biscuit in Shawnee. This group consists of both men and women, most of whom are near retirement age, but is open to all who have Thursday mornings available. We will discuss the sermon topic and pray for one another as we share what is happening in our daily lives.

Book Study: Terah Eden will be leading a book study of the book, A Life Without Lack: Living in Fullness of Psalms 23, this fall. Life Without Lack—Is a deep dive into the 23rd Psalm. “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want”. This classic Psalm details what our earthly life could look like when we learn to live in the sufficiency of God. Most Christians will agree that we all desire to live a bigger life than we are currently living; a life that knows the sufficiency of God, and is able to experience contentment through an intimate relationship with our heavenly Father … A life that looks like more like Jesus’. But, how exactly do we get there? What does that transformation look like? This book is a series of in-depth meditations on the Twenty-Third Psalm intended to help renew our minds by giving the Holy Spirit opportunities to teach us about what it means for the Lord to be our Shepherd. Questions/Suggestions- please contact Terah at tedenrn98@gmail.com

Time: Sundays (Time TBD) (Time, day, and place are negotiable – depending on group needs)

Place: Church

Time Commitment:

  • 8 weeks in a small group setting. We will meet once per week in person for 1-1. 5 hours depending on group size. Each week, in the group,  we will discuss any thoughts, struggles, and ahha moments from the readings. Most importantly we will support one another as we open up to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

  • Outside of the small group, participants are to read 1 chapter each week as well as develop a daily practice of “prayer/meditation” if it is not already established.
