Heads up! Projects Coming at Shawnee Community

A couple of projects are starting at Shawnee Community soon!

For several years now we’ve had discussions about upgrading our bathrooms to be more inclusive and secure. To keep costs down the layout of the rooms will not be changed but all toilets and urinals will be enclosed floor to ceiling. These simple changes are important to walk the walk of Shawnee Community values that “All Are Welcome.” In the past some individuals have not used our facilities because they weren’t comfortable or didn’t want others to be uncomfortable. New laws in Kansas and elsewhere are making our LGBTQ+ community look for safe places. Our bathroom upgrade is one small way of reinforcing all are welcome.

Lastly, our annual fire inspection cited that the double doors into the sanctuary do not swing out for safe exiting in an emergency. The doors will be turned around to be in compliance by this fall.

We Can’t Wait to Worship with You!

Sunday, June 25 • 10:00 a.m.

Join us on Sunday, June 25 at 10:00 a.m., either in-person or streaming live on Facebook, as we continue our sermon series, Hot Mess Express. Summer is often a time of family reunions. For some of us it’s fun and joyful. For others of us, it’s uncomfortable or even painful. We ALL have dysfunction in our families-stories we’d rather not tell. It’s no different for those families in the Bible. Yet God still manages to work through and with those messy people just as God manages to work through and with messy us. And through it all, then and now, God still manages to bring hope into our lives and our family relationships.

Why Give Blood?

We’re facing a critical blood shortage. The Community Blood Center must collect almost 600 units of blood daily to meet the needs of area hospital patients. As there is no substitute for blood, Community Blood Center relies on volunteer donors like you to supply the life-saving blood and blood components to hospitals in Kansas and Missouri.

Thank you for your support!

Volunteer at PrideFest

Friends, once again, we have a great opportunity to support our neighbors by showing up at KC PrideFest! We will have a booth at the festival all weekend to share about our church. Other DOC churches are partnering with us as well to let everyone know there are communities of faith throughout the metro who are open and affirming. We will be handing out bottled water with our information on it and flyers for folks to take.

• Friday, June 9-Sunday, 11: Volunteer at our PrideFest booth. Sign up at the button below. Time slots are for 2 hours and we need 4 people per time slot. We will also share the sign up with other DOC churches for support.
