December Mission Opportunity

This year we are partnering with Micah Ministry to provide Christmas presents for children of Micah’s clients. Children’s names will be placed on the Micah Christmas Mission Project tree in the lobby of church on Sunday, November 21st. The suggested amount is a gift or gifts that total around $35-40. Please place each child’s gift(s) unwrapped in a solid colored bag tagged with the name and number of each child. Please bring the gifts to church by Sunday, December 5th. Church members will pick up the gifts and deliver them to Micah by Monday, December 6th. Thank you for being the hands and feet of Christ as we continue our mission work at Shawnee Community!

Micah Ministry is located in Kansas City, MO. Each Monday dinner is served to homeless adults and children. Guests also receive clothing and hygiene products from the clothing closet. Volunteers serve dinner and help distribute clothing and hygiene products. Micah has continued to serve the community throughout the COVID pandemic. If you are interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities at Micah, please contact Ashley Follett, communications director.

The Hands & Feet: Mission Opportunities

Thank you to everyone who donated items for our Thanksgiving boxes. Through your generosity, we were able to provide 10 Thanksgiving meals complete with turkey and pie, for families in our community. Thank you for being the church and living out our mission and values of making a difference in our community and throughout the world.

Thanksgiving Mission Project

Normally this time of year we begin thinking about the wonderful Thanksgiving dinner at church, with all those delicious dishes provided by friends. We leave with our bellies full and smiles on our faces after eating and visiting with church family. It’s a great memory!

But this year the Children’s Ministry Committee decided on a goal of serving our community by providing a memory to 10 families from our area schools. Our goal is to provide a Thanksgiving meal for 10 local families, to put a smile on their face by celebrating Thanksgiving with their family and to create a wonderful memory.

Below is a link where you may sign up to help provide food for this mission. Sign up for as many slots as you choose to.

We will be collecting food at church on Nov. 7 and 14. Food will be delivered on Nov. 17.

The time is short! It’s time for us to be the hands and feet of God once again!

Won’t you join us!

Why Give Blood?

Community Blood Center must collect almost 600 units of blood daily to meet the needs of area hospital patients.  As there is no substitute for blood, Community Blood Center relies on volunteer donors like you to supply the life-saving blood and blood components to hospitals in Kansas and Missouri.
