Children’s Ministry

Nursery Care
Loving nursery care is provided for newborns & toddlers each worship service at Shawnee Community. Our paid nursery staff includes elementary school teachers who are screened and well-trained. Children are exposed to stories and characters from the bible as they play and interact with our staff.

Community Kids
Community Kids is available for kids, ages 3 years to 5th grade during each worship service. We use the Cokesbury Deep Blue curriculum, providing volunteer teachers and parents with resources for helping kids grow in their understanding of Bible stories and God’s love for them. Children experience Bible stories through hands-on Bible use, crafts, games, science, snacks and music.

Disciple Makers
Disciple Makers is for 5th grade students transitioning from children’s ministry into student ministry. Students gather for small group conversation, serve in and out of the church, and consider the possibility of baptism. At the conclusion of this class students often choose to be baptized for the first time, to confirm a childhood baptism, or to wait until a later date to consider baptism as a faith commitment.

Volunteers in children’s ministry are highly qualified as a majority of them are public school teachers. Each classroom is staffed by two adults. All of our volunteers must pass background checks and attend yearly training.

Our Children and Family Ministry is led by Katie Sampel. For more information about Shawnee Community Family Ministry programs or to volunteer (background check and waiting period required), email Katie at childrensministry@shawneecommunity.org.
