Ladies, mark your calendars for Tuesday, November 14! You are invited for a night where you can relax, connect with other women from the church, and enjoy some good food. We are changing locations to The Other Place (22730 Midland Dr, Shawnee, KS 66226) because we could reserve the back room for the next six months so we can all plan ahead and add it to our calendars! Where Loves Grow Campaign Update

As our campaign, Where Love Grows: Investing in Our Church’s Future comes to a close, I want to provide an update. This campaign came at the end of both COVID and our calling of a new pastor and was intended to help us meet our monthly expenses. We wanted to allow the new pastor room to do ministry without the added struggle of financial strains.

Our goal was $125,000 over a two-year period to support the church (over and above our regular giving). The pledges came in at $104,000 over the two-year period. To date, $83,315 has been received by Shawnee Community.

While we are growing and beginning to look more like our pre-COVID congregation, we are still struggling to meet our monthly obligations. We are experiencing a deficit each month. Please consider renewing your pledge for another two-year period. This allows us to invest in the future of the church. If you have contributed, please consider an increase in your monthly giving. If you have pledged, please make sure you have met the commitment.

Together, we can accomplish great things.

Join Us On Sunday for Worship!

Sunday, October 22 • 10:00 a.m.

Join us on Sunday at 10:00 a.m., in person or streaming live on Facebook, as we continue our sermon series, Because of You, Our Church Changes Lives. God called two women, Shiphrah and Puah, to be midwives in ancient Egypt. They were blessed by God because they faithfully used what they had, their skill as midwives, to protect and serve God’s people in unimaginable difficulty. Through this partnership with God, these women helped and supported an entire community.

How are we supporting and helping our community? Are we partnering with God to create space where the entire community is welcome, loved, and respected? Are we sharing in ways that folks who need are able to hear it?

Because of You: Generosity Moment

What you do matters. How you support Shawnee Community Christian Church makes a real difference in our community. How you share your gifts impacts more people than you know, because those gifts are multiplied in powerful ways.

One person bringing a package of socks for Socktober may keep the feet of one or two houseless persons warm. But two hundred people bringing hundreds of pairs of socks—will help hundreds stay warm and dry when they need it most. What you give has a direct impact on the community around us.

Our mission and values are important to us here at Shawnee Community Christian Church. We recite them every week as part of our worship service…so what are those values? Sharing God’s love through acceptance, compassion, and grace. Every chance we get.

Each year we take time to consider the resources we have and how we are using them as a faith community. I invite you to prayerfully consider your participation in supporting our mission and values as we hear and learn over the next four weeks about how our Generosity matters.

Blessings,

Tabatha

Trunk or Treat at Shawnee Community

Calling all ghosts, goblins, witches, and wizards! It’s that time of year again when the leaves turn orange, the pumpkins glow, and the candy bowls overflow. Join us for a hauntingly good time at our Trunk or Treat event on Saturday, October 28 from 4-6:00 p.m.! Dress up, grab your treat bags, and join us for an afternoon of frightfully delightful fun. Share the excitement with your friends and family. See you there, if you dare!

Volunteers are needed to help make this event a success. This is always one of our largest events and many hands and trunks are needed! Please consider bringing a car or two and decorating it for trunk-or-treat. There will be a contest for the best trunks with prizes!

Trunk Sign Up

Candy donations are also needed. A collection bin will be set up in the lobby. We will be advertising this event on social media so we do expect a large crowd.  Thank you for helping us provide an awesome experience for our neighbors!

Socktober: October Mission Project

During the month of October, the kids in Children’s Ministry have challenged the church to collect 300 pairs of new socks for adult men and women who are guests of Micah Ministry. On Sunday, we had collected 99 pairs of socks. If you are out and about this weekend, pick up a few pairs. Even a small act of love, such as donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors who are unhoused or food insecure.

A donation bucket is located at the Children’s Ministry check-in desk. Thank you for your donations and helping us live out our mission to serve our neighbors here and around the world!

We Can’t Wait to Worship With You on Sunday!

Sunday, October 15 • 10:00 a.m.

Join us on Sunday at 10:00 a.m., in person or streaming live on Facebook, as we begin our new sermon series, Because of You, Our Church Changes Lives. We will also celebrate the installation of Jack Sampel as our youth ministry director. It’s going to be a great day to worship at Shawnee Community!

Because of You, Our Church Changes Lives (Genesis 2:15-17, 3: 1-7)

From the very beginning of creation, God intended humanity to be in a partnership with God. This partnership helps us care for the Earth, all the creatures within it, and one another. It’s a partnership that asks us to SEE and KNOW one another fully so we can be in a healthy relationship with one another. It’s a relationship that relies on building trust and letting go of the anxiety we have about ‘having enough.’

What is God asking us to SEE and KNOW about one another, the Earth, other Creatures, and God? How does this help us restore relationships with all of those things when they have been broken? Can a restoration of trust help us discover we already have enough of what we need?
