Why Give Blood?

We’re facing a critical blood shortage. The Community Blood Center must collect almost 600 units of blood daily to meet the needs of area hospital patients. As there is no substitute for blood, Community Blood Center relies on volunteer donors like you to supply the life-saving blood and blood components to hospitals in Kansas and Missouri.

Thank you for your support!

See You On Sunday!

Sunday, June 4 • 10:00 a.m.

Join us on Sunday, June 4 at 10:00 a.m., either in-person or streaming live on Facebook, as we begin on new sermon series, Hot Mess Express. Summer is often a time of family reunions. For some of us it’s fun and joyful. For others of us, it’s uncomfortable or even painful. We ALL have dysfunction in our families-stories we’d rather not tell. It’s no different for those families in the Bible. Yet God still manages to work through and with those messy people just as God manages to work through and with messy us. And through it all, then and now, God still manages to bring hope into our lives and our family relationships.

Volunteer at PrideFest

Friends, once again, we have a great opportunity to support our neighbors by showing up at KC PrideFest! We will have a booth at the festival all weekend to share about our church. Other DOC churches are partnering with us as well to let everyone know there are communities of faith throughout the metro who are open and affirming. We will be handing out bottled water with our information on it and flyers for folks to take.

There are a couple of volunteer opportunities before the event and during PrideFest.

• Sunday, June 4: After worship, volunteers are needed to help put labels on water bottles we will handout at PrideFest.

• Friday, June 9-Sunday, 11: Volunteer at our PrideFest booth. Sign up at the link below. Time slots are for 2 hours and we need 4 people per time slot. We will also share the sign up with other DOC churches for support.

Last Sunday for Toilet Paper Drive

Sunday is the last day we will be collecting toilet paper for Micah Ministry.

This month in Children’s Ministry the focus is on sharing God’s love with others. We invite you to bring toilet paper and place it in the collection box located in the church lobby. Thank you for supporting the Children’s Ministry Mission Project!

Micah Ministry is located in Kansas City, MO. Each Monday dinner is served to homeless adults and children. Guests also receive clothing and hygiene products from the clothing closet. Volunteers serve dinner and help distribute clothing and hygiene products.

Bible Study Moment: Matthew 25

Matthew 25:31-45 is probably a familiar scripture passage for many of you. It is “the sheep and the goats”. One thing that has always stuck out for me is verse 40 which reads “Then the king will reply to them, ‘I assure you that when you have done it for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you have done it for me.” Emphasis added because in verse 45 “brothers and sisters of mine” is not there.

Just a few years ago I read one person explain this by saying that Jesus is calling us to help the hungry, thirsty, stranger,
naked, sick, and those in prison only if they are already “in the household of faith”. This struck me as a way to interpret
scripture to justify what the person is doing, or willing to do. One problem with this interpretation that I see is that when addressing the “goats”, who have not helped those who may be outside the household of faith, the goats still “will go away into eternal punishment” in verse 45.

Instead I’m inclined to think Jesus is telling us to see others as brothers and sisters regardless of any religious faith, because he does.
