Newcomer Lunch on March 5th

Sunday, March 5th • Following Worship

On March 5th, following worship there will be a lunch for everyone who is a new attender, has visited, or is interested in membership with Shawnee Community. We’d love it if you could join us. It will be a casual time for you to have any questions you have about our church answered, give you an opportunity to meet other new folks and have a good meal and fellowship together. If you’re interested in joining us, please let Tabatha (tabatha@shawneecommunity.org) know so we can have an accurate count for the volunteers who will be making us lunch.

New Sermon Series Begins Sunday!

Sunday, January 29th • 10:00 a.m.

Join us for worship at 10:00 am, either in-person or streaming live on Facebook, as we begin our sermon series, What’s Broken Can Be Mended. On Sunday, we will examine What’s Broken Can Be Mended: Wouldn’t You Rather Hear….

The Beatitudes are a series of promises, or blessings, from God to people who are struggling with life, grief, poverty, injustice, hopelessness. But let’s be honest…not one of us desires to go through any of these things. Wouldn’t we rather hear that we don’t have to, ever? Wouldn’t that be a better promise?

But none of us are promised a life free of struggle. So what is God’s promise, and how can we trust that it’s there when we need it the most?

Join Us for Worship on Sunday

Join us for worship at 10:00 am, either in-person or streaming live on Facebook, as we continue our sermon series, Say Yes to Rest. On Sunday, we will examine Say Yes to Rest: Sabbath as Escape.

Sabbath interrupts our routines and helps us reset our bodies, minds, and spirits into a healthier space. Whether our lives are comfortable or difficult there are always things we need to escape from, even just temporarily. We already know we could all use a break, but what we struggle with is how to take that break. We think we can’t take a break until all our tasks are finished, but that’s impossible. There’s a never-ending list of things we need to finish. Perhaps instead we could think of Sabbath as a resting place along our journey of life—and that’s where we find what we need to be able to continue on that journey.

Say Yes to Rest Sermon Series Continues Sunday

Sunday, January 15th • 10:00 am

Join us for worship at 10:00 am, either in-person or streaming live on Facebook, as we continue our sermon series, Say Yes to Rest. On Sunday, we will examine Say Yes to Rest: Sabbath as Resistance.

We live in a culture where more is often never enough and we fill our days with the anxious and restless pursuit of more…more stuff, more activities, more accolades, more work. How do we understand that production is not our life’s work? How do we stop consuming our lives and live in a way that recognizes the value of our relationships with one another?

God created a day of rest and asks us to honor it…can we do that in today’s culture and how would it change our lives for the better?

Thank You Morgan!

We are so appreciative of the gifts Morgan has shared with all of us as our Youth Director, she has done a wonderful job! Recently she accepted a full-time internship and will no longer be able to serve as our Youth Director. We will still see her around the church and volunteering with the church band as she is able. So, it’s not goodbye really, but certainly a celebration of her gifts, abilities, and her future
possibilities.

Morgan, even though we’ll miss your work with the youth, we celebrate your exciting news and all the possibilities of your bright future!!
