Volunteer Spotlight

Megan Dieme is mom to 3 kids – Souleye (15 years), Bacary (10 years) and Arona (7 years). She has been married to Kalifa for 11 years. They started attending Shawnee Community in 2012. Megan says she loves helping in Sunday school because she gets to see the kids grow over the years and helping the kids with the crafts!  Megan just started her private practice called Baobab Therapy and Wellness, LLC in May. She is a therapist who works with kids and adults. When she is not running her kids to many sporting events she loves to listen to books, be outside in nature and blast salsa music and dance while cleaning house.  Thanks Dieme family for being part of our Shawnee Community family!

See you on Sunday!

Sunday, February 6th • 10:00 a.m.

We can’t wait to worship with you on Sunday, February 6th at 10:00 a.m., either in person or streaming on Facebook, as we continue our sermon series, The Art of Hearing. On Sunday, we examine Hearing is Believing.

We don’t know what Jesus taught his followers on this particular day, but whatever it was it seemed to be exactly what his disciples needed to hear. After a night of fishing and coming back empty handed, they heard Jesus’ words and it gave them the encouragement they needed to try again. As tired as they probably were, they were able to open themselves to Jesus’ guidance exactly when they needed it most. Their willingness to hear what Jesus taught them was life changing for all of them.

Sometimes, it is in the middle of feeling like we have failed that we are able to open ourselves up to hearing from God exactly what we need at the moment we need it most. When have you been discouraged or felt like you’ve failed? How has hearing God’s voice in your life offered you the encouragement you’ve needed to get through a difficult time?

They have attended Shawnee Community for 7 years. Nicole is a veterinarian and works at Animal Care Clinic. Her hobbies are taking her dogs on walks, doing puzzles, reading and listening to podcasts. Join Us Sunday In Person or Streaming on Facebook!

Sunday, January 30 • 10:00 a.m.

Join us at 10:00 am on Sunday, January 30th in person or streaming live on Facebook, as we begin our new sermons series, The Art of Hearing. What does it mean to hear and be heard? So often we have difficulty letting go of our own agendas to hear what others need us to hear, and to hear what God wants us to hear. How can you learn to listen to what God wants for your life? Jesus’ teachings in scripture share volumes with us in more than words…How can his teachings model for you the power of God’s voice and presence and your ability to respond to God’s voice in your life today?

We can’t wait to worship with you!

Volunteer Spotlight

Danielle and Justin Pippitt are one of our parent teams who volunteer in Sunday school once a month. They joined our church 5 years ago after attending one of our Easter Extravaganza events. They have been married for 17 years and have two children Landon (12 years) and Nora (9 years). Danielle has been a stay at home mom while working on her second bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (her first is in Industrial Engineering). Justin works at Evergy managing a group of engineers who take care of the distribution system.  The family loves reading, hiking, kayaking and canoeing. Danielle is the leader of Nora’s Girl Scout troop. Justin is a fan of Sporting KC and loves to travel and build with LEGO’s. When asked what they loved best about volunteering at Shawnee Community, Justin said, “I have always liked teaching and my wife says I’m basically an overgrown child.” Danielle’s response was, “I enjoy reviewing my bible knowledge through the eyes of children.” Thank you Pippitts for volunteering in children’s ministry!

Join Us for Worship Online this Sunday

Sunday, January 23 • 10:00 a.m.

Join us Sunday for online worship at 10:00 a.m. on our church Facebook Page or you can watch anytime on our YouTube channel or website. We will continue our sermon series, Living With Joy.

Due to the high number of COVID cases in our community and to minimize exposures at this time, the Health & Safety Team has concluded that it would be best if we continued church virtually this Sunday.

We grieve that we cannot worship together in person, but give thanks for the Spirit, that continues to be with us and hold us together, no matter where and how we worship. As always we give thanks for your patience and flexibility as we navigate how to best care for one another and the body of Christ.
