When You’ve Had Enough: Finding Rest in the Quiet | Shawnee Community Christian Church

August 16, 2026/in News, Podcast, Sermon Video/by SCAdmin

We live in a culture that celebrates overwork and busyness, so much so that even faithful people feel the urge to run into the wilderness, sit under a solitary bush, and say, “I’ve had enough.” But what if dropping the act of having it all together isn’t a failure of faith?

In 1 Kings 19, after facing overwhelming odds, the prophet Elijah hits a wall. God doesn’t lecture him, scold him, or demand a five-year plan. Instead, God sends an angel with a simple message: eat, sleep, and rest. Before Elijah needs a sermon, he needs breakfast.

When hard times hit, quick explanations and simple clichés often break under pressure. God doesn’t always show up in the roaring wind, earthquake, or fire—the chaos isn’t evidence of abandonment. Instead, God meets us in the sheer silence, staying right beside us in our heavy seasons as a gentle companion.
